An Artful Existence
I am grateful to live, work and play on the unceded traditional territories of the K’omoks First Nation,
having moved to the Comox Valley in 2017. I am a settler on these lands, the eldest daughter of Danish immigrants, and grew up on the unceded traditional territories of the K’tunaxa in the interior of BC, the Creston Valley.
I have come to my career as a counsellor on an unconventional path; my artful existence.

I attended University of Victoria in the 1980’s, starting on academic probation in the Fine Arts department. My teenage rebellion had distracted me to the point of barely finishing high school, and I completed the last of my requirements through correspondence school. My university acceptance was conditional on my grades in first year. I had intended to study business, and it has been my life’s delight that I landed in first year fine art courses.
That fateful circumstance set a different course for my life which I have happily embraced.

I took 25 years to complete my undergraduate degree, finally graduating in 2009. During that time, I also got married and divorced, worked in advertising and as a hairdresser, raised three children, ran an organic farm,
and supported various community, social, and arts organizations. Throughout, I created art. Art has always
provided an outlet for my emotions, self-reflection, self-expression, and personal growth.
At various times in my life, I have sought counselling to support me through life transitions, periods of
deep grief, loss, and depression. I have discovered that compassionate education, coupled with developing communication skills, can transform lives and relationships, starting with my own.

I have a deep interest in human sexuality and its’ connection with relationships, sensuality, and creativity. As a cis-heterosexual woman (she/her) I ally myself with the current inclusive shift in sexuality and gender norms, and focus my exploration of sexuality in a framework of pleasure and consent. As a multi-media artist, I explore themes of feminism, gender, the human form, emotional vulnerability, mythology, and memory. I have grown to recognize the intersection of these areas both with counselling, and human growth and development.

I love using creativity to facilitate personal growth and have a strong ability to communicate complex ideas in a straightforward and accessible manner. I have an approachable, nonjudgmental, and practical personality
with a playful mix of compassion, humour, warmth, and direct communication.

I own Artful : The Gallery in Courtenay, BC. The gallery is an exhibition space for a talented variety of emerging and mid-career BC artists, as well as being the home of my personal studio practise. I curate exhibitions at Artful : The Gallery on themes relating to gender, emotional vulnerability, race relations, feminism and sexuality. If you are interested, the gallery website can be accessed through this link: https://www.artfulthegallery.com/

As an artist, my current focus is the very human wisdom contained within mythological structures.
My Danish heritage provides a direct link to Scandinavian mythology, and my paintings are currently populated
with the Norse Gods. If you are interested, my work can be viewed on my Instagram feed: https://www.instagram.com/kristinacampbellartist/

Since 2017 I have led a variety of programs from weekly group psychoeducation (up to 12 participants) and workshops on a variety of subjects; sexuality, creativity, personal growth, and communication (up to 45 participants). Artful : The Gallery provides an inspiring, comfortable and private environment, for counselling and workshops.

Based in the Comox Valley, BC, I provide in-person counselling services for the Comox Valley, and workshop facilitation services to all of Vancouver Island including our most Northern communities.
